3 Days 2 Nights Longhouse Living Batang Ai Trip ~ Sarawak, Borneo

An early start will have you visiting our close ‘cousins’, the Orangutans at the Semenggoh Wildlife Centre. You will commence your journey along the Pan-Borneo highway through farmlands and little townships making several stops enroute for market visits and lunch breaks. After a long day’s travel on the road you will be delighted to step onboard a longboat for the lake and river journey to the Iban heartland with their rustic longhouses dotting the banks of the Batang Ai River.

Known previously as the ‘Sea-Dayaks’, the Ibans are by far the largest ethnic group in Sarawak priding themselves with an impressive oral history, rituals as well as material culture. Once feared for their ‘headhunting’ practices, the Iban people are now mainly expert agriculturalists in the village setting whilst those that have subscribed to the rural-urban shift are successful wage earning city dwellers or industrialists.

The idyllic lifestyles and warm hospitality of your hosts and the pristine riverine landscapes will leave you with a lasting impression of a special part of Borneo..
