Our People

Teng Lei - marketing director

Teng Lei, hmm…well, there’s one thing consistent about her is her ability to get tasks done . I suppose that’s what we mean by ‘good management’. Not shirking responsibilities but rather delegating work to all other ‘able-bodied’ personnel. Teng Lei’s job at journeymalaysia is to lead our motley crew in the right direction, to steer us back in line with our objective and goals. She is, after all, our navigator.

Aida Mastura - financial director

For those with a passion for travel, it is indeed much easier to write about places that interest the writer. At journeymalaysia, we agree on one thing …a writer is only be as good as she or he can be if backed with the enthusiasm to experience new things, and witness the familiar through eyes of the unbiased. After the initial trips for journeymalaysia at the beginning of the year, she has just about used all her annual leave. Our negotiator, Aida can only take short trips out of the city, but yet she’s content with visiting nearby off-the-beaten track destinations and enjoys them thoroughly. Suspiciously, her travel interests tend to lean more towards the ‘laid back, do nothing, enjoy and dream all day long’ category!

Yeok Siew - research writer / director

Travelling has always been a hobby, nurtured from the days of backpack adventures, eons ago. Sharing travel experiences with friends, acquaintances and even people met along the way was how the idea of journeymalaysia was born. Malaysia has so much to offer and there's not a minute to waste in shouting out the beauty of our country and people.

Carmen Chan - travel advisor

Carmen learned the ropes of the travel industry over a span of a decade which began as a junior executive accompanying corporate groups on trips. Many years later with a whole lot of experience plus the invaluable ability to foster customer rapport under her belt, she's come over to join us at journeymalaysia to fulfill one of our objectives, that is the bridging of holidaymakers with happy, memorable holidays.

Kah Lok - travel advisor

Kah Lok is great with people and great with groups of people. His years of experience in the industry both local and abroad has honed his people skills. Apart from working at the office, Kah Lok also travels Malaysia so that he familiarises with the routes, difficulties, joys and all the emotions that travellers may feel on their journey. With this, he is armed with solid tools to be able to consult. That's what a travel consultant should be armed with..

Yen Sin - travel advisor

Making a life changing move is not always a choice for everyone and for Yen Sin, it's been a hectic change and she hasn't looked back since. She takes on part of the booking job and in her free time, she takes time off to travel to meet with hotel and travel operators. Behind her soft spoken demeanor which comes through over the phone, is an incredibly strong and calm being.

Annie Liew - travel advisor

Annie is our latest recruit and she brings along a sense of grace to the team. In her free time, she teaches ballet to young, aspiring ballerinas. Her first month at work already had her visitng taman negara and kuching. She brings first hand destination experiences to journeymalaysia's readers.

Teng Chui - technical / webmaster

Teng Chui falls into the IT generation and seems to make all sense of strings of strange formulae to create something completely legible. Without her, there really wouldn't be a new and better journeymalaysia. Apart from the main portal which is journeymalaysia english version , Teng Chui has also created journeymalaysia chinese version and transitroom.com ~ the travel forum for us. A super whiz, every impossible task we pose is always a challenge and an opportunity for her to fit the puzzle. She is so good at it that most times, we're cracking our head as to what project to challenge her next..

Za Morad - technical / webmaster

Za keeps journeymalaysia abreast on how it is to be done to increase customer satisfaction especially in areas where gliches and annoyances can be a loss of potential businesses. She is crucial in providing everything on the technical and design side. As with constant updating and uploading plus the revamp of our site in 2004, it's been great having someone who can deliver on time (!) and provide us with the much needed advice on how to make journeymalaysia userfriendly and search engine friendly. That's the buzz in the world of internet..

Billy Wong - editor

Feels like each time we hand over our articles for editing, we leave with a grading. Don’t get us wrong, Billy. It’s great. Makes us feel n-n-nine(teen) again. Seriously though, Billy has almost 40years of experience as an English lecturer and a highly revered teacher in our local schools and colleges. In our books, he’s the best and if we do get rapped for sloppy work then that’s for us to prep up and do better.

Karen Choo - messenger

Our messenger who tirelessly sought out the buzz in the market for us which includes titillating news of 'whats on and whats not'. But, not yet...we havent shown her to the world , she's really actually into the espionage thing...sourcing for and locating ideas to showcase in 'our brand new and exciting but still on the drawingboard' : Wildpadi.com!!! What is it? Well, you'll just have to wait, won't you?! Keep on snooping Karen.

Teng Hui - administrator

Teng Hui dreams of grandeur for journeymalaysia and the rest of us scramble to keep up with her. As one of journeymalaysia’s pioneers, she plays a vital role in keeping us abreast of the happenings in the real world. This is crucial especially when myopia sets in and we get all pent up over the more insignificant ‘cogs in the wheel’.

Jonathan Wong - travel writer

Jon falls into the category of writers who can write just about anything and bring it to life. But of course, he, like all the artisans of the world has to feel the soul of his subject before pouring it into their creations. Typically eloquent yet forthright in his writing and everything else that he touches, we are extremely fortunate to have him write, consult and carry the weight on his back for journeymalaysia.

Cynthia Lim - travel writer

Cynthia resides in Melbourne and returns to Malaysia every year for a bout of fun, sea, sand and food. Whenever we catch wind that she’s back, we grab her at our earliest opportunity and send her off to exotic places equipped only with the most relevant tools, that is - paper, pencil and a dozen tubes of mosquito repellent. And you know what, she has never complained about her assignments. You’re the best Dr.Lim!

Denise Freeman - travel writer

Denise totally immerses herself in everything she does. This is the training one gets as a copywriter. When one has to write copiously and untiringly about topics far and wide, one must certainly go forth and experience hands on. Now that she has found in travelling, a channel for her writing, writing for journeymalaysia must surely be a breeze. Or is it? Thanks for the fab articles, Denise.

Mary Low - contributing writer

Mary’s mantra is ‘Nothing is impossible, live a happy and positive life and things will go your way’. She exudes an aura of enthusiasm and the great thing is that it rubs off on all of us. Every week, Mary comes up with an inspiring phrase to encourage and fuel and enthuse us to push forward in everything we do, not only in getting journeymalaysia going but also in life. That she has this huge responsibility is not enough, we also burden her with the more tedious parts of armchair research and writing. Thank you for your patience and the many hours burning the midnight oil.

Jharna Wong - contributing writer

Jharna wrote our very first article for journeymalaysia in year 2000 right after we had the company set up to run the website. She had the daunting task of writing about the history of Malaysia. The sort of article that sends a writer no further than the nearest library. The task of having to write such tedious articles drove most of us scampering for the nearest exit. But not for Jharna, she took it in stride and completed an 8-page, hand-written thesis on our history in no time at all. Thank you, thank you Jo for your support, patience and for willingly completing all the articles dumped on you!

Puan Siti Eshah - contributing writer

Puan Eshah was first introduced to the concept and workings of journeymalaysia when we were allowed to cover the wedding ceremonies of her younger daughter for an article. When we then approached her to help us on the ‘Speak Malay’ section, she was more than delighted to ‘roll up her sleeves’ and chip in on the work.

Hailey Hassan - travel writer

Good ol’ Hailey! Known her for years - didn’t know her enough to know that she has a lot of talent there as a writer. But now that we know, we wont stop hounding till there are no articles left to write. Which will, in the case of travel writers, be…never! The food, the shopping the entertainment - she has it under control. Not the actual eating, shopping and entertaining though - the writing, the writing! She’s a Christmas cheer all year round.

Eliza Lim - travel writer

Eliza’s is a hard core traveller, visiting places in South East Asia regularly - sometimes on her own, sometimes with friends. But she travels the rough way, the way Ian Wright of Lonely Planet does? But a little rougher and a little less privileged, I should add! Everywhere she went, she’d write her journals and send them through emails to the growing list of friends who waited and waited eagerly for her new travel stories. She’s one tough cookie! How many of us have the guts to do so eh? well, and now that she has a little bit of time, she writes for us.
