Turtle Conservation Centre Day Trip Rates ~ valid until 31st December 2010

Package includes the following:

* Briefing on river terrapin conservation* Adopt one or more river terrapins each, hold it for as long as you wish to bond with it and learn about it, name it and release it into the Setiu River, the natural home of the terrapins * Visit to a painted terrapin hatchery in Penarik *View bird hotels * Visit ikan bilis cottage industry and buy fresh ikan bilis (if available) * View traditional Malay houses along the way * Lunch * Transport to and from KT Town

Trip Overview

Who ?

Jointly organized by the resort and the Turtle Conservation Centre (TCC), a new organization co-founded by Dr. Chan Eng Heng and Tan Sri Dr. Salleh Mohd Nor to help save freshwater and marine turtles in Malaysia.

When and Where ?

Package will start when you return to KT after your Redang trip. It will take place by the banks of the Setiu River in Penarik, about 60km north of KT. and will last no more than 4 hours that includes a lunch stop. 

Why ?

• To raise funds for TCC’s River Terrapin Recovery Program in the Setiu River. Funds are needed to save the river terrapin eggs from human consumption, incubate them, raise the baby terrapins for a few years before releasing them back to the river to replenish the depleted population. 
• To raise awareness for the critically endangered freshwater turtles of which there are two species, the river terrapin or tuntung sungai (Batagur affinis) and the painted terrapin or tuntung laut (Batagur borneoensis)

Please note the activity will be carried out only if there is a minimum of ten adoptions per trip
