Arrive Kota Kinabalu airport and transfer to your hotel for overnight stay

Transfer to jetty for a 20-minutes boat ride to Gaya Island. Explore the 2km jungle trail and learn about some of the unique medicinal plants, tropical hardwood trees, coastal vegetation, tropical Dipterocarp rainforest and the ecology of the mangrove forest. Transfer across to Manukan Island for a picnic lunch. Relax, snorkel and free at leisure before returning at 1500 hours. Overnight stay in hotel. Drive 2 hours overland (88 km) through paddy-fields and Dusun villages over the ridges of the Crocker Range to the foothills of Mt. Kinabalu at 5,000ft. A short stop at roadside stalls at Nabalu market to savour local fruits in season. At Kinabalu Park World Heritage Site, visit the Education Centre and Mountain Garden, home to various species of the flowering Rhododendrons, carnivorous pitcher plants, orchids, ferns, oak trees and birds. Overnight stay in Kundasang. (B/L/D)

After breakfast, continue 40 km overland journey to Poring, 1,500 ft above sea level, east of Kinabalu Park HQ. Explore tropical lowland rainforest and the jungle trail leading up to the treetop canopy walkways, suspended 41 meters above the forest floor across giant Mengaris trees (excludes camera/video fee). Visit Kipungit Waterfall and soak in hot sulphur pools. Continue with an approximately 4 hours drive to Sandakan, east coast of Sabah. Visit Rainforest Discovery Centre, set up within the Kabili-Sepilok Forest Reserve. Walk on a 28 metre tall canopy bridge to observe the breathtaking green surroundings and learn interesting facts about rainforests in the Visitor Centre. Walk in one of the trails to see dipterocarp trees and a wide range of plants here. Overnight stay at a resort near Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre. (B/L/D)

Transfer to the Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Centre for a video show. Trek ten minutes through the rainforest on wooden plank walks to witness the feeding of the orang utans at 1000hrs. Continue to Sandakan jetty for 2½ hours boat journey to the multi awards winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge along Sabah's longest river, Kinabatangan with opportunity to view birds and wildlife in virgin mangrove, wetland and rainforest habitats. Late afternoon take a river cruise using electric motor in search of some of the 10 primate species. Sukau is home to Borneo pygmy elephants, orang utans, proboscis monkeys and all eight species of hornbill in Borneo.

Return for solar heated hot shower, candle light dinner overlooking the riverbank and slide show conducted by naturalist guide. Overnight at the award winning Sukau Rainforest Lodge, named by National Geographic Adventure magazine in 2009 as one of the top 50 jungle lodges in the world. (B/L/D)

Wake up to the calls of gibbons and hornbills. A 0600hrs morning river cruise up the Kinabatangan River to Kelenanap oxbow lake to view more birds and wildlife. After breakfast, proceed for an educational tour on the Hornbill Boardwalk located behind the lodge with our in-house naturalist.  You also have the option to participate in our Kinabatangan Wildlife Corridor Regeneration Programme (KWICORP) by planting trees on our 65 acres adopted land. In the afternoon, we proceed for another river cruise for more wildlife. After dinner an optional night safari cruise (at a surcharge) spotting nocturnal animals, crocodiles and birds. Proceed 2 hours overland to Lahad Datu for lunch. Drive 83km through selectively logged forest, cocoa and soft-wood plantations before arriving at the Borneo Rainforest Lodge beside Danum River on the edge of 438 sq. km of undisturbed lowland rainforest. The Lodge is home to the full range of Sabah's lowland fauna, including the rare Sumatran Rhinoceros, Elephants, Clouded Leopards, and Orang Utans. So far some 275 species of birds have been recorded in the area. Explore nature trail and nearby river. In the evening a slide show and if weather permits we go spotlighting to view some of the nocturnal animals. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge. (B/L/D)

Early morning birdwalk before breakfast. Spend the whole day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an escarpment with ancient burial coffins. Trek to waterfall for refreshing dip in rock pools. Lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, explore more trails leading to canopy walkway. Overnight at Borneo Rainforest Lodge. (B/L/D)

Morning Trek in search of mammals and birds, Return to the Lodge before departing for Lahad Datu. After lunch, proceed with a 2 ½ -hour journey to Tawau. Overnight stay in hotel. (B/L)

Drive to Tawau Hills Park and trek 2 km through pristine tropical rainforest to witness the tallest tropical yellow Seraya tree (Shorea Faguetiana) at 88.32 meter high. Return to Tawau for lunch before we depart to Tawau airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu or Kuala Lumpur. (B/L)
